The John Howard Society provides various services aimed at supporting those who have been, or are at risk of being, affected by the criminal justice system. From crime prevention initiatives, to effective integration into the community and to the delivery of justice and social justice-related programs, the John Howard Society is dedicated to promoting an effective, just and humane response to the causes and consequences of crime.
Based in Toronto, The Laneway Project works in partnership with residents, local businesses, developers and the design community to turn neglected laneways into vibrant shared places that are alive with culture, commerce, recreation, and community – and supports municipalities and other key stakeholders as they incorporate the lessons learned into new, laneway-friendly planning policies and procedures.
The end result? Engaging, lively and richly-textured places where people want to live, work and visit.
With a long history dating all the way back to the late seventies, this B.C.-based organization has led and taken part in a wide range of projects and initiatives that empower individuals to take responsibility for social, economic and environmental well-being. Through the evolution of these initiatives, Earthwise Society has devoted itself to promoting sustainability through education and community operating out of the Earthwise Garden and Earthwise Farm.
